Two government officials were arrested in Maharashtra's Raigad district for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 25,000, an official said on Friday, reported the PTI.


Based on a complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Navi Mumbai laid a trap and caught one of the accused officials while accepting the bribe amount on Thursday, the official said, as per the PTI,


The complainant alleged that an assistant engineer demanded Rs 30,000 to prepare an estimate for development works for a village under the Uran Panchayat Samiti, he said.


The complainant was instructed to hand over the bribe money to another assistant engineer from the Raigad Zilla Parishad, the official said.

The two officials have been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act, he said.

Meanwhile, two PWD assistant engineers were arrested on Thursday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe, a Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) official said, reported the PTI.

He identified the two as Reshma Naik (31), assistant engineer in the Uran panchayat samiti and Satish Kamble (51), assistant engineer in Raigad zilla parishad, as per the PTI.

"They demanded Rs 30,000 from the complainant to expedite a development work in a village. Kamble was held while taking Rs 25,000 on behalf of Naik. Both were arrested under Prevention of Corruption Act," the official said, according to the PTI.

Meanwhile, in an another incident, earlier this month, a woman talathi, or revenue department official, was held by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Maharashtra's Raigad district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 to do an official work, the ACB said on Thursday, reported the PTI.

According to the PTI, The woman, identified as Shilpa Pawar, was arrested on Wednesday, said the ACB.

A local resident had approached the talathi office for getting his name entered in an official document. Pawar demanded Rs 6,000 from him for making the entry in government record, it said, as per the PTI.

He filed a complaint with the ACB's Raigad unit, which laid a trap and caught the revenue department official while accepting the bribe, said the anti-corruption agency.

A case was registered against her under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
