In a tragic incident, a 53-year-old pointsman stationed at Kolad railway station in Raigad, Maharashtra was fatally shot by unidentified individuals, the police said on Tuesday.


The victim, Chandrakant Kamble, was found dead within his cabin by the station master. The station master promptly alerted the Raigad police and Kolad police, who swiftly responded to the situation, an official said,


The police said, the forensic experts and a dog squad were deployed to aid in tracking down the perpetrator responsible for the attack. An official murder case has been registered with the Kolad police.


The distressing event unfolded when the station master heard the sound of a gunshot emanating from the pointsman's cabin situated at Tise Gaon, specifically at gate number 4. Upon investigation, the station master found Chandrakant Kamble seated in his chair, with blood emanating from a wound on his head. Without delay, the Kolad police were notified of the incident. In response to the report, the Raigad police, accompanied by a forensic team, a dog squad, and fingerprint experts, swiftly arrived at the scene. Thorough inspections of the site were conducted by the respective teams.

"The deceased had been residing in Pale Budruk village within the Roha Taluka. The body has been sent to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for post-mortem examination," stated an official from the Kolad police station.

The Raigad police have filed a case against unidentified individuals under IPC section 302 and relevant sections of the Arms Act. The investigation is under the direction of Sub-Divisional Officer Sonali Kadam.
