Maharashtra: 28-year-old man held with drugs worth Rs 5.50 lakh in Navi Mumbai

A 28-year-old man was arrested from Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai for allegedly possessing 55 gm Mephedrone valued at Rs 5.50 lakh, an official said on Tuesday, reported the PTI.


The accused, identified as Wasim Anwar Bazkhan, was nabbed near the Belapur creek on Monday late night on a tip-off, he said, adding that a search is on for his accomplice, according to the PTI.


The accused and his aide are residents of Mumbra in Thane district, police said.


A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Out on bail in drug case, 26-year-old man held with mephedrone in Mumbai

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have arrested a 26-year-old man after mephedrone or MD drug worth more than Rs 41.65 lakh was recovered from his possession in Mumbai suburb of Kurla, an official said on Monday, reported news agency PTI.

According to the Kurla police station official, the accused was identified as Fareed Rehmatullah Sheikh, who recently came out on bail in a separate case registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, reported PTI.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap in Kurla and nabbed the accused on Sunday while he was delivering a consignment of mephedrone, a synthetic stimulant drug, said the official, reported PTI.

Sheikh was arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and further investigation was underway, he added, reported PTI.

In an another incident, Mumbai Police have arrested two persons from Rajasthan in connection with a series of motorcycle thefts and recovered 11 stolen vehicles, an official said on Tuesday.

The accused, Bheru Nenu Nath (29) and Devendra Kuldeep Singh (25), were arrested from Rajasmand city in Rajasthan, the official said.

The duo allegedly stole motorcycles from Mumbai and Rajasthan, forged documents and sold them with new registration numbers, he said.

The police were probing a vehicle theft reported at Kandivali in the western suburbs when they zeroed in on the accused, the official said.

Eleven motorcycles allegedly stolen from Mumbai and Rajasthan were recovered from the duo, he said, adding that a case has been registered under section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.
