Around 25 people were reportedly booked after two groups clashed over a petty issue during a religious procession in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Tuesday, reported the PTI.


A case has been registered against 25 persons, the police said.



No arrests have been made in connection with the incident that occurred in Saravali village in Bhiwandi in Thane district of Maharashtra on Monday night, an official said, as per the PTI.


The groups reportedly clashed over the issue of throwing gulal during a religious procession at around 9.30 pm on Monday, the official said.

A case has been registered under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Maharashtra Police Act against the suspects and further investigations in the matter were underway, he said, according to the PTI.

Man injured in sword attack in Thane district; five booked

Meanwhile in an another incident in Thane, a case was registered against five persons for allegedly attacking a man with a sword and injuring him over a dispute, the police said on Tuesday, according to the PTI.

The incident occurred in Ulhasnagar township of Maharashtra's Thane district on Sunday night, an official said.

The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act against the five accused, who have not been arrested as yet, he said, as per the PTI.

The victim was identified as Rohitsingh Sunilsingh Labana, an official said on Tuesday.

Rohitsingh was travelling on a motorcycle with one of his friend when he was attacked by the suspects.

While he was travelling on the bike with his friend, the suspect allegedly intercepted the vehicle and pulled him down. They later reportedly attacked him with a sword, the official said, the news agency reported.

The victim's friend, who was riding the two-wheeler, rushed him to a nearby hospital, he said.

The official said that further probe in the matter is underway.
