A 104-year-old from Dahisar has exercised her franchise via home voting process, an option that has been made available to voters above the age of 85 and the differently abled this year.

An election official said, “Lakshmi Rajput, a 104-year-old grandmother, exercised her right to vote at home on Tuesday in Dahisar West. The home voting process has made voting completely hassle-free and smooth for senior citizens and disabled voters. 153- Dahisar Assembly constituency has a total of 68 registered voters eligible for home voting. A total of 65 eligible registered voters exercised their right to vote on Tuesday,” an election official said.

“Voters above 85 years of age and disabled voters had been registered earlier for home voting. In line with the ECI initiative aimed at promoting inclusiveness in the Lok Sabha general elections, it is an effort to ensure that every eligible voter can exercise their democratic right, overcoming barriers created by mobility issues or age challenges,” he added.

Officials said the administration planned and carried out this home voting process by meeting the voters as per their convenience and time. “With such an initiative, electoral participation will become more accessible, inclusive and fair for a significant portion of the population,” he added.
