The nine-year-old boy, who accidentally crashed into actor Simran Sachdev’s 63-year-old mother, will miss his school trip to Switzerland, thanks to the FIR filed against him in the matter. Nearly five months have passed since the Vanrai police filed a closure report saying the boy was booked because of a misunderstanding, but the Juvenile Justice Board in Dongri is yet to quash the case.

The incident took place at a high-rise society in Goregaon on March 27. The boy was cycling on the campus, when he accidentally hit the elderly woman, who sustained injuries. Actor Simran filed a complaint at Vanrai police station and an FIR was filed.
However, after mid-day’s report about the FIR against a nine-year-old, the top brass pulled up the Vanrai cops, who then decided to dissolve the case and filed the closure report on May 20.

Recently, the boy’s mother could not get her son’s passport renewed, as the “school is taking a tour to Verbier, Switzerland, on March 18-25, 2023, and the last date for payment and submission of passport is October 14”.
“I visited the passport office for renewal, but they could not do so, as the FIR is still showing in the records. His passport will be renewed only after the FIR is quashed. The FIR is hampering his mental peace and affecting his studies, and this will have a cascading effect on his career. He will not be able to go on the trip with his classmates,” the mother told mid-day.
“The police behaved with my son as if he’s a criminal. My son has to suffer for the blunder of Vanrai police who filed the FIR under the influence of Dindoshi Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Patil,” she added.
Inquiry against cops on
Following a mid-day report, DCP Somnath Gharge launched an inquiry against Sub Inspector Tanaji Patil, who filed the FIR, and Inspector Rani Puri who was in-charge of the Vanrai police station during the incident.
DCP Gharge told mid-day, “Our inquiry against the cops is still underway, and once it ends, we will take action appropriately. In the matter involving quashing the FIR against the boy, we are waiting for the Juvenile Justice Board’s action.”

Advocate Shravan Giri, representing the boy’s mother, said, “The pendency of the FIR has become a hindrance in the child’s career. His passport cannot be renewed; he cannot take admission in the International Board (IB) school... The first impression of the child will be of a criminal, which will prevail throughout his growing years. In the end, the whole family is defamed. This illegal FIR has grossly impacted the child’s life.” He added, “In all this, ACP Patil misused his power, the duty officer failed to use his legal mind and the actress got mileage, but the poor child is suffering.”
