YCM hospital tightens security on premises after baby theft case

The case of a woman stealing a newborn boy from Ward Number 68 of the YCM hospital two days ago has made the hospital administration go for a security review to prevent such incidents in the future.

“We have increased security at various places,” Medical Superintendent, YCM hospital, Anand Jagdale said. “We have focused on the maternity ward. Each and every person leaving the ward with a baby has to show the discharge card; otherwise, the person will not be allowed to leave the ward. This will be implemented strictly.”u00a0

The woman who stole the baby had faced no trouble walking away from the ward with the day-old boy, with no one asking her any questions. u00a0The security guard appointed to stand at the door had left 15 minutes before in spite of the fact that the reliever was yet to arrive.u00a0The YCM hospital is also increasing security at the gates of the facility.

“We are also increasing security at the gates of the hospital, where security guards will keep a watch on suspicious persons leaving the hospital,” Jagdale said. “We have added a security guard at the gate. We are also planning to install extra CCTV cameras which will cover the premises and nearby roads.”

The police had yesterday started questioning the relatives of the stolen baby. u00a0Police sources said they had been trying to obtain details of all incoming and
outgoing calls from the hospital premises during the hours preceding and following the theft.u00a0
