Chinchwad police arrested two doctors and a nurse on the charges of medical negligence, leading to death of a woman after her delivery at their Om Hospital which was being operated illegally at Kharalwadi in Pimpri since 2013. The deceased was identified as Ruta Rajappa Zopal (26), a resident of Anandnagar in Chinchwad.
The accused were identified as Dr Satish Sitaram Borkar (58) and Dr Aalap Satish Borkar (28), both residents of Ganeshnagar in Chinchwad, and nurse Ganga Ramswamy Reddy (52), a resident of Vidyavihar society in Chinchwad.
The trio was booked under sections 33, 33A and 36 of the Maharashtra Medical Council Act and other relevant
sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Initially, a case of accidental death had been registered last year against the trio. As per the recently filed FIR, the two doctors were not authorised to practice allopathy and had been running the hospital without registering it with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. They hired Reddy as a nurse, but later it was discovered that she too lacked a degree or a diploma in nursing.
In February 2013, Ruta Zopal was admitted to Om Hospital where the suspects operated upon her. After she was discharged, Ruta experienced severe pain in her heart and brain. Later, she breathed her last due to the alleged improper treatment given by two doctors at their hospital.
