New Delhi: Three juveniles have been apprehended for kidnapping and killing a 12-year-old son of a businessman for ransom here, police said here on Monday.

The juvenile trio killed their neighbour Mohammad Adi on September 13, kept his body at a rented accommodation for 24 hours, and later dumped it near a railway track in east Delhi's Man Sarovar Park area.

Police recovered the decomposed body on September 15 and apprehended the accused on Saturday when they made a call to the victim's father for demanding Rs.10 lakh in ransom. Adi resided in Jafrabad in east Delhi along with his two elder brothers and parents. He went missing on September 13 after one of the apprehended juveniles took him along from his house on the pretext to play.

"He took the victim to a room where his two other juvenile friends joined him. They had taken the room on rent. They first forced Adi to consume cannabis and then strangulated him," said a police official. During police interrogation, they confessed to have committed the crime to make easy money through ransom. Police said the mother of one of the juveniles works in the factory of the victim's father.

"The juvenile planned for kidnapping. His another friend joined the plan as he also needed money to marry his girlfriend. They also roped in another friend in their plan," said the official. Police said the trio have been sent to a juvenile home.

Meanwhile, though police managed to solve the case but they burnt the victim's body. Police mistook the body of a 22-year-old man as described by a team of doctors, who conducted its post-mortem. Neighbours and family members protested against the police at Jafrabad police station in east Delhi on Monday morning, a few hours after learning about the death of the missing boy.

"A mob led by the family members and the neighbours of the boy staged a protest when they learned that police burnt the body without proper verification," said the official. The official said the mob also pelted stones at a police team trying to pacify the mob in which two policemen injured. "The situation was later brought under control," said the official.
