Incident occurred yesterday afternoon at Hadapsar market; robbers made away with gold, silver and diamond jewellery that was on display
In a daylight robbery, a gang of three looted a jewellery shop in Hadapsar market and made away with gold, silver and diamond jewellery worth Rs 40 lakh. The incident occurred around 3.15 pm yesterday.
The robbers barged into Songira Jewellers owned by a Ajit Oswal, located in Ravidarshan building, and threatened Oswal, two of his employees, and five customers at gunpoint.
DCP (Zone IV) Manoj Patil said, “The robbers entered the shop and one of them threatened the complainant and others at gunpoint. After they pulled down the shutter, the other two bagged the jewellery on display.
While two of the robbers had covered their faces, CCTV camera captured images of the one without the mask. After the robbery, they fled the spot in a car. Their vehicle was traced to Manjari Road. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the car was stolen from a resident of Sadashiv Peth.”
Oswal later registered a case at the Hadapsar police station against the trio. All three were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 392 (punishment for robbery) and the Arms Act.
Inspector (Crime) Varsharani Patil from Hadapsar police station said, “The incident took place between 3.15 pm to 3.30 pm. Jewellery worth of R40 lakh has been stolen from the shop. Images of one of the robbers have been captured by the CCTV camera footage. He seems to be in mid-20s.”
