The accused raised the volume of the TV set to mask her screams; he later gave the victim R100 to buy her silence
A 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by her neighbour in Chinchwad, on Saturday.
Her mother lodged a complaint with Nigdi police station that evening against the neighbour, Ankush Dhande (30). However, he has run away and the police are looking for him.
The incident allegedly took place on Saturday afternoon at Dhande’s house. He has been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code comprising rape and under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act.
Sub-inspector Rohini Dhere who is investigating the case said, “Dhande is unemployed and has two children.
His wife had deserted him two years ago as he was unemployed. Their children live with her. The girl’s mother works as a maid and in her absence she looks after her two younger siblings. On Saturday, Dhande whose house she would often go to, called her over on the pretext of giving her Diwali sweets.”
Dhere added, “Later Dhande allegedly slapped and sexually abused her. He increased the volume of the television set to prevent her screams being heard. Giving her Rs 100, he allegedly asked her to keep quiet. When the girl’s mother came home in the evening, she saw the Rs 100 note in her hand.
The girl revealed that she was victimised by Dhande. Her mother and uncle questioned Dhande but he ran away. We are investigating the case and will soon arrest him.”
Police say the girl’s father passed away some years ago. She does not go to school but stays home to look after her siblings.
She has been admitted to a hospital.
