A 16-year-old residing in Vitthal Nagar in Pimpri was taken into police custody on Monday for allegedly assaulting and killing his father with a sharp weapon. The deceased, Ravindra Raghunath Badade (36), a resident of Balaji Housing Society, returned to his house at 10.30 pm on Sunday night to find that his mother, Tarabai Badade had not cooked chicken for dinner.

When Ravindra began arguing about this with his mother, his 16-year-old son intervened and asked him to stop making a fuss over it. Ravindra began arguing with his son instead, at which point Tarabai left the house and went to sit outside the building. “Tarabai returned upstairs at around 1.30 am and found the door locked from outside. On unlocking the door, she found Ravindra lying in a pool of blood, with a sharp weapon lying near him.

Her grandson was not in the house at that time,” said B B Mudiraj, police inspector at the Pimpri police station, who added that Tarabai called the police and informed them of the incident. The police took Ravindra to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Tarabai went on to lodge a complaint at the Pimpri police station.

Ravindra, who was a painter by profession, lived apart from his wife, and was addicted to alcohol, said Mudiraj. His son, who had recently cleared the tenth standard examinations, had been admitted to ITI for training. After he was taken into custody, the son confessed to have killed his father out of frustration from daily arguments, said the police.
