Acting on a tip-off that a rave party had been organised in honour of a recently retired ACP at Kalote village in Khalapur, Raigad, the police raided the farmhouse where the party was being held and detained 12 women, including a Ukrainian model, and 14 men late on Saturday night.

While the rave party angle turned out to be false as no drugs were found on any of the revellers, the police claimed that the women had been brought to the farmhouse to dance and that some of the people at the party did not have a drinking permit.

The party had been organised in honour of Suresh Pawar an assistant commissioner of police with the Navi Mumbai police, who retired on May 31. The party had been on for barely an hour when the police raid happened.

“We had a tip-off about a rave party, but the information turned out to be wrong. We arrested 12 girls and booked them under the Mumbai police act and also arrested six people who did not have a license to drink liquor and they were booked under the Bombay Prohibition act,” said Assistant Police Inspector Asaram Higerange of Khalapur police station.

As Pawar and five of his friends had a drinking permit, they were let off, as were two others who were not drinking. Sources in the Raigad police said the accused were not in possession of any drugs but various foreign liquor brands were found in the farmhouse, which were seized. They also said that the models had been brought to the farmhouse to dance. Rs 1 lakh in cash was seized from the arrested accused.
