Old woman hacked to death over land dispute in Thane

Thane: A 70-year-old woman from Bhiwandi taluka was hacked to death while five others were injured when they were attacked allegedly by an armed rival group in Tulsai village over a land dispute, district rural police said on Saturday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sahapur Division Vishal Thakur told PTI that the incident took place yesterday following a long pending dispute between the accused and the victims whild led to frequent quarrels among them.


Yesterday, around noon, members of the rival gang armed with weapons, sticks, iron rods, sickels attacked the victims leaving the old woman, identified as Anjani Namdeo Patil dead.

Police booked a total of eight persons including three women after the incident.

However, only two persons- a father and son identified as Mangal Parshuram Barde and Rahul Barde have been arrested in connection with the attack.

A manhunt has been launched for the other accused, the police officer said.

He also said that Padgha police have registered an offence under sections 302,307,324,143,147,148,149,504,506 of the IPC and further probe was on by local police.
