A police constable was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old resident doctor of Mumbai's BMC-run KEM Hospital for not treating his mother promptly.

The police registered a case against Sanket Vichare, the 28-year-old son of the patient, 57-year-old Suvarna, at Parel's Bhoiwada police station. Sanket was subsequently arrested.
The incident occurred at around 12. 20 am on Tuesday afternoon after the patient was brought to the hospital with a leg fracture by her son Sanket and Dr Kannai Wanand Masilamani (24), a resident doctor in the hospital’s orthopaedic department asked them to wait since he was attending to an emergency.
This enraged Sanket, a police constable, who started shouting at the doctor and demanded that his mother be attended to immediately.
Sanket then allegedly turned violent and even kicked Dr Kannai in the stomach.
Dr Kannai has registered a complaint with the Bhoiwada police station. Under the Doctors Protection Act, assaulting a doctor is a cognizable and a non-bailable offence.
