Annoyed that police wasn’t clamping down on ‘indecent’ establishments in Deccan Gymkhana, members of the party’s youth wing, BJYM, sent a decoy to the parlour, then barged in and shut it down; cops arrested its owner and nine women staffers

Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing yesterday barged into a massage parlour and got its employees and owner arrested, after sending a decoy to the parlour, where the female staff allegedly tried to engage him in licentious activities.

Galvanized by the sluggish attitude of the local police to their pressing concern, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) volunteers took up arms against the illegal massage parlour in the Deccan Gymkhana area. They claimed they had been complaining against the indecent goings-on at this and four others in the region for the past two months, but the Deccan police did not pay any heed to their concern.
A member of BJYM, Maharashtra region, Onkar Kadam, said, “Following the tip-off from our sources, we have the addresses of all the five establishments to the Deccan police, requesting them to take action against the massage parlours. However, even after constant follow-up from our side, the police were dilly-dallying in taking action against the illegal salons.”

So yesterday, the BYJC members took matters in their own hands. “We sent one of our volunteers posing as a customer to Gandharva Health Care. When they indulged in an indecent act, we barged into the parlour and called the police to the spot. However, the officials reached 45 minutes after we called them,” said Kadam.

Kadam added that resentful of the police’s apathy, around 25 party volunteers broke into the parlour and shut it down.
The police, for their part, took action against Gandharva Health Care, and arrested nine female employees along with the parlour’s owner, Jyoti Naidu. They have been booked under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA).
As for the other four parlours that were raising the party’s hackles, the police said they could not find incriminating evidence.
Kadam said, “As soon as we bashed into Gandharva Health Care, the owners of the other four massage parlours got wind of our actions, and before we could get to them, they hurriedly closed down.”
‘Luring youth’
The Shivaji Nagar constituency, where Deccan Gymkhana falls, has as many as 18 private and public educational institutions. The five illegal massage parlours shared their buildings with coaching classes. “The young students were their (massage parlours’) soft targets. They would attract the youngsters with their ‘special massage’ schemes,” said Kadam.
