New York: An Indian-origin man has been sentenced to 21 months in jail after he pleaded guilty of transferring obscene materials to a minor who was an undercover police officer.

Nilanjan Brahma, 53, was sent to prison yesterday by US District Judge Sam Cummings. He must surrender to the Bureau of Prisons next month. According to plea documents filed in the case, from approximately April 2011 through February 2012, Brahma engaged in a series of communications, via messaging, texting, and telephone, with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old female, described in the compliant as 'Jane Doe'.

Jane was an undercover officer with the Lubbock Police Department in Texas. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative, which was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
