Pune: Vishrambaug police have apprehended a 77-year-old man, identified as Yashwant Digambar Joglekar, on charges of raping a 23-year-old woman. The complainant worked as a domestic help at his house in Navi Peth. Meanwhile, Joglekar has also filed a cross-complaint against the woman and her two associates, alleging that they had demanded Rs 25 lakh from him and had threatened to kill him if he failed to give themoney.

Joglekar was remanded in police custody till January 27 by a local court yesterday. According to the maid’s complaint, she has been working at Joglekar’s house since March 2012. The accused had promised to give her some money to buy a dwelling, but had also demanded sexual favours from her. Assistant commissioner of police Deepak Humbre told the court that medical tests have to be conducted on the accused and the complainant.

In the cross-complaint, Joglekar has alleged that on Wednesday (January 22), the woman and her two associates, Tejas Sanjay Gaikwad (22) and Roopali Gaikwad (34), had threatened him. “The trio had taken Rs 3 lakh earlier and demanded an additional Rs 25 lakh. They had threatened to kill me and file a case against me if I didn’t give the money,” Joglekar has stated in his complaint.
