A 31-year-old housewife was cheated of Rs 3.85 lakh by a group of cyber fraudsters, who claimed they were calling from TV quiz game show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) to tell her she had won a Rs 55 lakh lottery.

The victim filed an FIR with the VP Road police station in Charni Road (East) on November 22 against the cyber fraudsters. According to the Indian Express report, the homemaker was approached by a woman named Nita on November 16 and claimed to be calling from the KBC show. The caller informed the woman that she had won a lottery of Rs 55 lakh and gave a number to the victim to process the alleged prize money.
When the victim called the given number, she was asked to pay Rs 9,000 as processing fees by another person. After this, she was made to call different persons from the gang, who made her pay money for converting the money from US dollars to Indian rupees among other things. After losing Rs 3.85 lakh, the woman finally realised that she is being duped and approached the police station. A probe has been initiated by the police.
