Members of the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS) took out a rally on the Omkareshwar Bridge at 4 pm yesterday.
They were protesting against the poor investigation done by the Pune police in the murder case of rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar, and to put pressure on politicians for passing of the anti-superstition bill during the upcoming winter session of state assembly.u00a0

Dabholkar’s son Hameed, MANS chairperson Avinash Patil and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Vandana Chavhan were a part of the rally and addressed its participants.
Around 100 volunteers of various organisations, working with MANS and supporting the bill, were part of the rally, during which pictorial depictions of 12 sections in the anti-superstition bill were displayed on the bridge.
Expressing displeasure over the police investigation, Hameed Dabholkar said, “This has hurt the family and all the volunteers of MANS that the police are still clueless about Dr Dabholkar’s killers.
There is a certain limit to our patience and police should not test it any more. A Special Investigation Task Force (SITF) should be formed to investigate this case, and solving it should be its priority.”
MANS chairperson Avinash Patil said the organisation has already initiated a campaign in the state to spread awareness about the bill and its conversion into a law.
Vandana Chavhan, who supported the bill, said, “Let us give time to our police to investigate this case, as it is a critical one. I have confidence that soon his (Narendra Dabholkar) murderers will be behind. We hope that the bill, once presented during the winter session, gets maximum votes and is passed.”
