We are already halfway through the year, and if you, like this writer, are nowhere close to reaching your fitness resolutions, this might just be a reminder that it’s not too late yet. Nerul’s Fit and Fight Club centre is hosting a free Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training session this Saturday for beginners and fitness enthusiasts alike. “The session will give you a taste of MMA, which is a sport that will not only improve your fitness and strength, but also teach you one of the most important skills in life — self defence,” shares founder Sanjivan Padwal.

There will be two slots for the 90-minute long session; one each in the morning and evening. Certified coaches and fighters will be teaching the class. In the first 45 minutes, the participants will be introduced to cross fit — a full body exercise routine, alongside light weight training (keeping in mind the beginners’ fitness levels). Once your body is warmed up, the trainers will move on to the crux of the session — MMA. Participants will be introduced to the sport and its basic techniques such as kicking and punching, which make up some of the important defence mechanisms. In the process, the trainees will also be introduced to warrior conditioning — an important element of combat sports.

“Here, you will connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about fitness and martial arts, forge new friendships, share experiences, and build a strong support system. Our MMA workshop offers not just physical training but also the opportunity to be part of a supportive and motivating community,” Padwal shares, adding, “The first session will include only MMA and warrior conditioning, but if trainees choose to continue with us, they can choose from the multiple self-defence training courses we offer, like kickboxing, muay thai, jiu jitsu, karate and wrestling.”
There are no restrictions to the age of the participants, apart from the fact that interested trainees must be over 10 years. “If need be, exercises are planned keeping in mind people who may have some physical problems such as knee pain and blood pressure. This is with complete understanding that every person is unique and has to be given tailor-made exercises at times to help achieve their goals. You can join us on a transformative journey towards a healthier, stronger, and confident self,” Padwal signs off.
