A financial analyst-turned-musician, Shrikanth Nair aims to put a smile on people's faces with his two-piece band, Nair Aunty's Curry, which performs today at The Finch.

"I like to term our music as happy music," says the 32-year-old, who has also worked as a programming head at a radio channel and as a music executive with film companies.

As for Nair Aunty's Curry's current sound, it's a combination of genres ranging from pop to folk rock. The original compositions are written in Hindi, Marathi and Malayalam. Nair, who hails from Nashik, now lives in Mumbai and has been performing for 12 years. As for the unique name of the band, he elaborates, "My mom introduced me to music. So, I wanted to dedicate the band to her and named it so."

Nair, who plays the guitar, will be accompanied by Mrugendra Mohadkar on the flute, so expect to enjoy instrumental bandish pieces too. He was looking for a flautist for a band and Mohadkar's name was suggested by a friend. Recently, Nair also composed the music for a short film named Scratch (by Vishal Jejurkar), which was screened at the Boston Film Festival.

"We will perform some of our original compositions and also present surprise covers of Hindi songs, which always get the crowd going," Nair signs off.

On Tonight, 8.30 pm
At The Finch, John Baker, Saki Vihar Road, Andheri East.
