It wouldn’t be completely off the mark to say that most contemporary western music genres owe their origins to the blues. You only have to look at The Black Keys to understand that. Yes, they are a rock band. But the American duo’s music is so heavily inflected with the blues that even a cotton farmer from early 20th-century Mississippi would have nodded in appreciation.
