Tasselled ponytails can be a cool yet simple way to jazz up your look

In the world of hairstyling, ponytails are an essential – both because they’re easy to execute and also because they’re so easy to dress up. At Halpern’s recent runway show at London Fashion Week, for instance, models sashayed down the ramp wearing brightly-coloured, tasselled extensions resembling bouncy ponytails. While this look is very specific to the type of extensions used, hair accessories designer Ami Mane says, there are several other ways you can add an extra something to your basic ponytail, using accessories you already have at home.

“The simplest way to accessories any hairdo is with earrings, which you can affix to your strands. Then, there are glitter extensions you can affix to your ponytails and combs that you can add to the base or the side of your ponytail. For a dramatic evening look, take a pearl necklace and wrap it around the base of your ponytail and let the length flow loose with your hair strands. Other clever ways to dress up your ‘do is with scarves, which you can fashion as scrunchies, or cute hair ties featuring floral or glittery accents,” she elaborates.
The only challenge with ponytails is that you can’t see how the style turns out, since it’s behind your head, says Mane. An easy way to overcome this is to use hair extensions that you can bedazzle and then add to your natural hair. This trick, says Mane, works well for formal ‘dos and weddings where you may not have access to a personal stylist.
