As K-pop band Black Pink recently showed, neon splashes are a simple but fun way to elevate your look. A stylist elaborates

Experimenting with your make-up can be a great way to lift your spirits when the weather’s dull and grey outdoors. In recent weeks, Rosé and Jennie of the K-pop sensation BlackPink shared photos of them wearing streaks of neon eyeliner on social media. Make-up artist Sneh Sharma says that adding neon elements can easily liven up your everyday look, keeping in mind a few basic considerations.

Placement is key
The trick to getting neon right is not wearing too much, but using it as an accent colour to make a bold statement, shares Sharma. She advises wearing a flash of neon under your brows, on the brow bone for a couture-like look. Alternatively, you could wear a pop of neon under your lower lash line or in the inner corners of your eyes to make them look brighter. This also accentuates your eye shape, while opening up your eyes. For a more playful spin, wear a pop of neon as a beauty spot or create neon freckles — keep your eyes clear with a heavy coat of mascara on your lashes and add clear gloss to your lips to play up the neon. If you’re aiming for a K-beauty-inspired look, use a neon eye shadow over clear skin and stained lips. Finally, for those who dare, a neon ombre lip colour will make heads turn for all the right reasons, Sharma explains.

Colour and technique
Neon green, orange, pink, blue and yellow work well with medium to deeper Indian skin tones, Sharma adds. She advises using cream products for better colour payoff and layering these over a white base to help the colour stand out. “Certain brands specialise in neon products that can be directly applied to your skin since they are highly pigmented,” she advises.
