This weekend, Dr Bhau Daji Lad museum’s education team will organise a stimulating workshop titled Decoding Images that promises to unravel the power of visual narratives. Inspired by the ongoing exhibition History Lab and the Elegy of Visceral Incantations by artist TV Santhosh, this workshop offers an opportunity for art enthusiasts to connect, create, and decode the captivating world of images.

The workshop begins with a walkthrough of the ongoing exhibition following which, participants will be encouraged to create montages of images extracted from newspapers and magazines in response to the artworks seen in the exhibition. The exhibition features Santhosh’s artworks, offering an exploration of society and history, particularly the pathology of war and violence, as well as the mediatic interventions influencing our perception and reality.
Tasneem Zakaria Mehta, director, Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum, asserts, “The workshop intends to familiarise the participants with the artist’s practice and think about the power of visual storytelling. During the walkthrough of the exhibition, participants will be asked to read the imagery used in the exhibition. They will then engage in a hands-on activity trying to read images cut out from their original contexts from magazines and newspapers and create a montage, creating new visual storylines.”
