Lower Parel's The Wok offers Asian food on-the-run, just as we like it, spicy and pocket-friendly

One can pick form a variety of vegetables and sauces

We first fell in love with the concept of choosing our ingredients and sauces for a noodle/rice dish that is whipped up in front of you at Stir Crazy in Thane (now shut, sadly). To revisit this idea, and that too when it was located near our workplace, seemed like a tempting proposition.

The Wok at Raghuvanshi Mills replaces Fatbox, which in turn replaced Sunburn Café. And like its predecessors, it serves food dished out in minutes. All you have to do is select your vegetables, protein (egg, chicken, chicken sausages, paneer or tofu, they don’t offer sea food as yet) noodles or rice and sauces. This preparation is called the Veg Box (Rs 150) or the Non Veg Box (Rs 180). They can create even a stir-fry version, sans the carbs (Rs 200 for veg, Rs 220 for non-veg).

What we liked was that one could pick different sauces from their list, so it’s possible to mix BBQ with Hunan and add Kung Pao to that as well, at no extra cost. For our Veg Box with paneer, we suggested that the noodles be cooked in a mix of Oyster and Butter Garlic Sauce, which, thankfully, was a smart call as the butter sauce added a glazed texture to the spicy Oyster sauce. For the Non Veg Box, we added extra chicken (Rs 40) and chose a mix of Hunan and Red Thai.

Again, it was a good mix of everything that one would expect from your neighbourhood Chinese-food-serving kiosk. Luckily for us, this was better, as we could taste subtle differences in flavours between the Red Thai and Hunan sauces.

The food was prepared quick, and was non-greasy, which when combined with its well-done sauces, have tempted us to walk back into The Wok, again.
