A restaurant is hosting an eating championship. But be warned, it's not for the faint-hearted

Only a couple of days ago, we had written in these pages about the Dara Singh Thali challenge. It involves finishing a plate of around 33 different food items, all of which are Indian. But this country is not the Mecca of eating competitions. That title applies more to the US, a nation so prone to such events that it bases an entire TV series on them, as is the case with Man Vs Food.
So it's quite fitting that an American-style eatery is hosting an "Ultimate Eating Championship" across all its outlets. Here's the deal: Finish a plate filled with baby back ribs in BBQ sauce, crispy chicken, hot chicken wings, onion rings, home-style fries and corn on the cob before anyone else does, and you win a plaque along with free meals at the restaurant for the next three months. What's more, wolf it all down in 15 minutes and you get a Rs 5,000 voucher on the spot.

It doesn't seem like a ridiculous proposition on paper. But then again, nor did eating 50 eggs in an hour seem all that difficult when we first saw Cool Hand Luke, a movie that serves as another vindication of Americans being prone to binge-eating. If you, however, feel like you can pull off the sort of stunt that Paul Newman did in the Hollywood flick, then head to one of the outlets where the eating championship is being held. But before you do that, please don't take inspiration from a joke we have heard where a person trying something similar practises finishing all the food at home an hour before the competition!
