A new pizzeria in Bandra allows you to select your playlist while you grab a bite
Satisfaction Pizza
A hangout where you pick your pizza and play your favourite tunes called for dekko. When we strolled into Playlist Pizzeria for dinner, we liked the vibe. The music theme wasn’t overdone, and most elements in the décor blended seamlessly. A wall showcased original vinyls by icons like Bismillah Khan, Eagles and Santana. We also spotted triangular panels that looked like ‘play’ buttons. The menu was music-inspired with sections like Opening Act (entrees), Main-stage (main course), Supporting Act (sides) and After Party (desserts). The pizzas had quirky song titles ranging from Poker Face and Blurred Lines to Hips Don’t Lie, Californication and Tease Me. The restaurant is owned by chef Rakesh, along with his partners Nikhil Sachdev and Raj Barai, who are DJ’s too.

You can customise your food and choose your music via the Playmysong app. The paper mats at the pizzeria feature clear instructions on how to download the app and pick your song. After you’ve downloaded the app put Playlist Pizzeria in the search bar and a list of tracks show up. The app shows you what is currently playing, and the tracks that have been cued by others. It gives you an estimated time within which your song will play.

Every month they have different artistes. This month, it was Trackdrops, and the app displayed a list of their songs along with Indi Pop, Soft Rock and Beathouse; there were also recommendations of their popular tracks. We found the app easy to navigate and spotted a few of our favourite artistes, including Pink Floyd and Cold Play on the list. Since the place wasn’t crowded (the restaurant can seat 25 people), not too many songs were in queue, and our requests played in succession; we wonder, however, if this will work during a full house.

You can choose from starters like Barbecue Chicken Wings, salads and pasta but we decided to keep it simple. We started with the Playlist Signature Garlic Bread (Rs 150), Resembling a 9-inch pizza; the garlic bread was perfect; crisp and not too cheesy. Next, we picked Satisfaction (Rs 650) topped with ham, bacon, salami and cheese and the Beileibers 4 Cheese Pizza (Rs 410) including blue cheese and prosciutto. We loved the whole wheat base of these thin crust pizzas. We couldn’t resist Pizza Cookie (Rs 175), which is a large pizza-sized chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream toppings. We also liked the idea around Producers – where you choose your base, sauce and toppings to create a custom made delight. With no alcohol on offer and a paltry drinks menu, we suggest you press ‘Play’, and focus on the pizza.
