Overlook the haphazard service and stuff your face with affordable burgers, cheesy fries and shakes from the newest entrant to Carter Road's bustling fast food scene
Chicken Bro

Located at the upper, quieter end of Carter Road's khau galli, with a bright fuchsia pink frontage, and a glass milk bottle-redolent window display as the leitmotif, this "yet-another-burger-joint" makes a confidant debut. Primarily purported to be a takeaway, Burger Bros has enough space for eight diners to sit down comfortably for what one would hope to be a 'quick' snack that's ready for pick-up sooner than you can say "burger".
Cheesy Hand-cut Fries
Sadly, that was so not the case with this month-old eatery - run by two brothers - the day we dropped by. But we'll have to put down the mixed up orders, communication snafus between the front of house and the kitchen, and other assorted goof-ups (including a patron getting a tenderloin burger in place of his veggie one!) to teething problems. This, all because of two important aspects that they get almost spot on: the food and drink.
So, to a soundtrack peppered with everything from Sia to Justin Bieber, we sat down to a burger fuelled afternoon that barely put a dent in our wallet, though our time schedule is a whole other matter!
Lamb Kebab Bro
Plump rosemary-scented chicken patties doused with garlic aioli and cheese sauce and served with cooling coleslaw on whole wheat buns was what the Chicken Bro burger (Rs 225) was all about. Generously portioned and ridiculously well-priced were the Cheesy Home-Made Hand-Cut Fries (Rs 90) that we had jazzed up with a perfectly made Spicy Goan Chorizo gravy (Rs 30) reminding us of a desi take on a Canadian poutine.
Though a tad saltier, the modest sized Double Cheese Burger (Rs 265) with an extra side of Cajun Spice BBQ Bacon Bits (Rs 30) made for messy satisfaction. Here, unctuous molten American cheese and BBQ sauces enrobed two succulent tenderloin patties, while all this was held between soft white burger buns. The caramelised paprika-spiced onions, chargrilled kebab-style lamb patties, lemon-garlic mayo and toasted bun that made up the Lamb Kebab Bro (Rs 225), paired with a Warm Blue Cheese Dip (Rs 20), hit the spot.
Choco Oreo Malt Shake
A perfect foil for all the meaty excesses were the thick, well-made Dark Chocolate and Banana and the crunchy Chocolate Oreo Malt milkshakes (both, Rs 185) served up in cute, old fashioned milk bottles. But sadly, as many as four out of the seven shakes on the menu (including a tiramisu iteration we had our eyes on) weren't available that day.
The strictly okay-ish Spicy Mexican Lamb Chilli (Rs 30) sitting atop criminally soggy Cheesy Nachos (Rs 90) and the boring falafel, pickled beetroot and hummus stuffed Habibi Bro burger (Rs 185) did very little to make us smile. With more attention paid to service, variety (some dessert, please) and a few tweaks, Burger Bros could well be on its way to tell the city's other burger joints to… err, burger off.
