In an industry that has the power to reach out to the masses, every filmmaker strives to connect with the audience through a story that they hold close to their heart. But what happens when the story they want to tell is seen as a taboo? Having faced such dilemmas throughout their careers in the film industry is the award-winning mother-daughter duo of Aparna Sen and Konkona Sen Sharma. They will come together for Mumbai Local, a community arts initiative supported by Junoon, to discuss the challenges in making the right film choices, and what it means to address untold stories.
"Today, when there is so much silencing going on from all quarters, the courage to stand for what you believe in becomes even more important," says Sameera Iyengar, co-founder, Junoon. "Films, with their ability to reach so many people at once, can make us consider topics that are hidden under a veil of silence."
