It may come as a surprise to many men who expect to earn Brownie points by whisking their other half off for a surprise romantic getaway, but 60 percent of women surveyed in a new poll have confessed that they hate surprises

Women 'hate spontaneity from partners'

One third women admitted that they would be annoyed if their partner sprang a holiday on them, because they would have no time to prepare for it.

Sex and relationships, Women hate surprises

The research found the typical woman wants seven days and 11 hours notice before even the shortest break so she can plan her outfits (with at least three shopping trips) and arrange cover at work, the Daily Mail reported.

While romantic city breaks or a spot of culture are welcome treats, planning is key to couples enjoying a trip away together, the study of 2,000 women shows.

Key activities before leaving home include having beauty treatments, cancelling prior arrangements and ensuring all essentials are packed.

The research, commissioned by British Airways, found women think at least nine outfits are needed for short breaks and one in four said forgetting a key item would spoil their time away.

“It might not always occur to men just how much preparation their partners put in to any trip away,” Abigail Comber, head of brands at British Airways, said.

“Even if they may only be flying short-haul, they rush through researching places to eat and things to do, as well as last minute beauty appointments.

“Women have a lot to do before they go on holiday,” she added.u00a0
