I strongly believe that I'm a lesbian

Updated on: 16 November,2012 07:07 AM IST  |
Dear Diana |

Dear Diana, I'm a 21-year-old college student and I'm doing quite well in my studies. I just feel that I'm not like other girls because unlike them, I'm attracted towards girls.

I strongly believe that I'm a lesbian

None of my friends are willing to accept me for my orientation so I avoid talking to them. They feel insecure in my presence though I don’t look at them in that romantic light! My parents are very conversative in nature so I can’t approach them either. The reason I’m writing to you is I’ve fallen for this quiet girl from our batch. Like me, she too seems lonely and doesn’t roam around with cronies. I’m thinking of talking to her but what if I’m mistaken about her orientation?
— Malia

Dear Malia,
Many experts agree that a person’s sexual orientation is determined at a young age, even as early as birth. It’s normal and healthy to be yourself, whether you’re gay or straight. What’s really important is learning to like yourself. You be yourself and let the others say what they want. There is no harm in striking a friendship with anyone. But just be wary of how you approach the girl. She may be totally unaware of what’s on your mind. So go slow and then later after you get to know her, you will realise her true feelings.
