Dr. Vishant Deo

Here we are today with Dr. Vishant Deo who has been one of the leading names in the medical field in today’s date. It would be a highly enthusiastic session and overwhelming too to know about our most loved Doctor Vishant Deo.

1) Why did you ever think of becoming a doctor?

“Becoming a doctor isn’t just a dream but a reality to be fulfilled. From the very first day of my life, I have been inspired by the plethora of events taking place all around me. I have seen that the process of healing is not only the best part of any person’s life but also a blessing. People rely on doctors for their survival. The first thought as a child that came to my mind was that I wanted to help people in all possible ways. That is the point when I started nurturing the secret desire in my mind to become a doctor. Serving people has been like a passion which majorly drove me to be what I am today!”

2) Let us talk about your achievement. What did you feel when you became the Gold Medalist in 2nd Year MBBS or became the 3rd University Topper in MS?

“Those have really been some ecstatic moments of my life when I received the Gold Medal in MBBS 2nd Year or became the 3rd University Topper during the MS. I would cherish those moments throughout my lifetime and learn from my achievements. Those moments made me feel confident and helped me to take a bigger leap towards my dreams. Being a Doctor has always been my dream but those were the times when I promised myself that I have to be the best Doctor, the person who would be a friend over a Doctor, who would not only win medals in education but also win the medals of life. The best judge will always be my patients. Today wherever I am, it is because of the people who have believed in me. In the moments of being a topper, the first and the last thing that really hovered my mind was to serve people and utilize all the good I have within myself to be the best Doctor anyone can ever be.”

3) Tell me more about your achievements! That would really inspire a lot of people.

“I believe there can be multiple certifications or awards that I have achieved throughout the journey but the best achievement of my life is to give the smile back to my patients and to get the enormous blessings. The bigger the smile on my patient's face, the happier I am. That is the achievement any doctor should desire for. I desire to give back life to my patients. That is what I strive for. Apart from that I have achieved multiple certifications from training in Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery which was organised by Ethicon,  gastrointestinal Oncology from Tata Memorial Centre etc. These are things that I have continued to do so that I could improve myself everyday and be a better doctor supporting people in their needs.”

4) I would like to know about your journey as a Doctor. How is it till date?

“As you know, I am a laparoscopic surgeon, general surgeon and a cancer Surgeon, currently based in Siliguri. Previously I have been working in AIIMS (New Delhi) for a prolonged time of 3 years and then for 1 year in Fortis Mumbai and then I have also worked in Tata Cancer Hospital in the Gastrointestinal Cancer Department. I actually completed my M.S. in General Surgery from the Government Medical college of Amritsar and have been working for over 7 years since the completion. With such avid experiences and the diversity in work culture, I have come across a lot of patients and their problems. I have faced multiple challenges and put all my best efforts to keep up to my work and ethics. Currently after such vivid experiences, I offer services in multiple fields like Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Cancer and General Surgery, Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, Gallbladder surgery and treat breast disorders, Hernia and Appendix as well. So far it has been excellent and I have been growing a lot from my experiences.''

5) How do you handle Stressful circumstances and keep a work-life balance?

“Being a doctor is a bigger responsibility and handling the life of a patient is always a hectic job because you need to be over cautious about everything. Your one wrong step can be completely life threatening to your patients. So, stress management has been a part and parcel of daily life. You just have to stay calm and think about the welfare of the people around you as a whole. When you think about others, the stress does not seem like stress at all. And really there has been a lot of support from my family for which my work-life balance has been perfect. I know the work I am doing as a doctor is actually the motive of my life and there is no difference between living a life and serving the people.”

6) During the times of Covid, what are the precautions you have been taking?

“The Covid times have been really very hard for doctors and patients suffering from covid or may be other diseases. For the covid situation, the treatment of other diseases has almost ceased and people are having a lot of difficulty figuring out the situation. I try to communicate with people via blogs where I tell them about healthy habits and ways to understand any underlying problem in them. Wearing PPE kit, using sanitizers, marks, face shields have been the new norm and we are absolutely abiding by it. As warriors we are supposed to fight the situation and also help our patients survive through this.”

7) Any message to the people in these tough times?

“Absolutely! Thank you for all the love, faith and blessing that people have showered upon me. In any tough situation I will always be there for all the people. The greatest strength right now, is your immunity. Keep up to it. Have a healthy diet. Wear masks, avoid social gathering and keep yourself clean. Wash your hands often and avoid stepping out unnecessarily. We will get through the situation together if we become responsible for ourselves before anybody. Take care and stay safe.”
