Feel like dozing off after lunch during working hours? Experts say there's a reason for that: high protein and salt content present in certain types of foods.
According to a report by Indiatimes, Researchers at the Scripps Research Institute in the United states, found that post-meal sleep was the result of consumptions of foods with high portion sof proteins and salt.
The researchers recorded the fruit flies' behaviour and found that they tend to sleep more after a eating such meals. To enable visual tracking of food consumption and insect motion the team created the Activity Recording CAFE (ARC) and to determine if individual nutrients could modulate post-meal sleep, the team gave the flies food consisting of protein, salt or sugar.
The team arrived at this conclusion by studying the behaviour of individual fruit flies. They discovered that like humans the flies sleep for longer periods following a heavy meal.
