Pune will be taken on a 90-minute laughathon this Friday, as three stand-up comedians Ashish Shakya, Rohan Joshi, and Tanmay Bhat are all set to tickle your funny bone
Get ready to laugh until your stomachs ache as a comedy trio is going to perform at Arc Asia this Friday. The three stand-up comedians -- Ashish Shakya, Rohan Joshi, and Tanmay Bhatu00a0-- hope to leave Puneites asking for more. Of the three, Rohan Joshi and Ashish Shakya have performed at the Weirdass Hamateur Night before, a night for amateur comedians by Vir Das. Talking about performing as a trio, Shakya says,u00a0 "This is not like a band. We do our own distinct, individual stuff, so there are no creative differences. We just make sure that if we're joking about the same subjects, our punch lines aren't the same."
Though they don't have many differences, the subjects chosen to joke about, sometimes, becomes a topic of debate. "At times, we'll all have a joke on the same subject. For example, everyone wants to do a joke about Baba Ramdev. So how do we resolve that? Oh, a fistfight, some guns come out, and then we get really drunk and pass out." says Joshi as he busts out laughing. "Some days it's easy, some days it's tough. You can never take it for granted and you have to work for each laugh. It's always a challenge, but it's a blast" he adds.
Stand-up comedy is a lot of fun for the audience but it's a lot of hard work for the performers. "Comedy needs a lot of work and when things aren't going your way on stage, you need to be able to think quickly and shuffle material around and counter it. On a good day, it requires a fair bit of effort. On a bad day, it requires a truckload of effort. Our audiences have been pretty nice so far, so that helps. Also, the more drunk you are, the funnier we get," says Shakya.
Joshi, who has performed in Pune before says he loves the vibe of the city. "I think it's really chilled out. You've got students, IT professionals, and I'm hoping they will all come to watch," he says. Shakya feels performing in Pune would be very similar to performing in New Bombay, "I haven't performed in Pune, but I have performed in New Bombay, so that's practically the same thing, right? I've heard good things from friends who've performed here and I am looking forward to it," Shakya signs off.
