This is one of the things that have been affecting the likes of Twitter and Facebook for some time now. Ok, say analysts, you are popular, but show me the money, buddy. And while making money is not very easy when you are pushing a new concept, Twitter seems to have at least seen a glimmer of light.

Thanks, Dell

According to a Reuters report, Dell, which has posted to Twitter about two years and tracks the sales with proprietary software, made more than $1 million in the past 6 months. And before you write home, remember this $1 million in six months is nothing to a company that, according to Fortune, has revenues of $61,101 million.

However, while Twitter's contribution to Dell itself is miniscule, this could in some ways indicate some possible revenue stream for Twitter. What if Twitter could get Dell or other companies to share some of the revenues that it gained from them?

Great idea?

Of course, if we were to yell 'hooray' and say that Twitter has finally found a way of making money, then we could be mistaken. After all, this is merely an idea, and proper implementation could make the difference between success and failure for Twitter.

For Twitter to succeed, many more like Dell should be able to make money from Twitter accounts, but not everybody may be able to do this. For instance, one reason why Dell could possibly make money was probably because it is listed #75 in the top 100 with 547,310 users according to www.twittercounter.com.

Tough question

One question that we could ask is this if Dell, which is #75, took six whole months to make $1 million from Twitter, what can we say of somebody who is way below in the list? Will they take a year to make a million? Or, worse still, will they never get there?

It is hard to answer such questions using just Dell as an example. However, we can be sure that Twitter, which is looking out for way of making money, will latch upon this idea and try to milk it for all that it is worth.

QUICK TAKE
>>Dell is making money by using Twitter
>>This could be a revenue model for the microblogging site
>>But more effort needs to be put in before this can be called a real success
