Mumbai-based Rock band Blakc is all set to belt out some new originals for music lovers this Thursday at Hard Rock Cafe

An album old, and set to release their second album, Mumbai-based Rock bandu00a0-- Blakcu00a0-- is set to unleash their latest compositions this week in the city. The band features Roop Thomas on bass, Reinhardt Dias on guitar, Anish Menon on guitar, Shishir Thakur on drums and Shawn Pereira on vocals.

The band, which performed two weeks ago at a college fest, are geared for their comeback in the city. "Pune is our second home", as Pereira explains. Apart from the new material, the boys are also excited about shooting a new music video for one of their untitled tracks.

Enthralling listeners since 2009, the band promises a totally different sound on their second album. "For our first album, Choking on a dream, we had written the material in 2006 and each member did things differently to bring the sound together. But in the second album, there are collective inputs as a band. The first album was simpler and we were na ve and still getting our act together as a band. We were around 17 or 18 years old when we wrote the material for our debut album. A lot had evolved since then," expresses Pereira.

Though they don't wish to be labelled under any genre, several people have titled them as either an Alternative Rock band or a band whose sounds falls into the grunge and funk genre. Song writing plays an important role in giving newer melodies a voice. Pereira writes the lyrics for most of his songs and believes in writing what he feels strongly about. "We have certain songs that revolve around society and politics. But we don't include direct remarks. There are songs where I talk about relationships gone sour and so on," he says.

But when it comes to creating a melody, Pereira believes that it depends on the nature of the song. He says, "There have been times when the entire song was composed and we didn't include any words." The band has a decent fan following in the city, and are looking forward to this gig, where they will be performing around 20 to 24 originals live. The songs lined up for the gig include Agenda, Blacklisted, Storm, My angry song and tracks from Choking on a dream.
