The Democracy Trilogy hosted by The Root Reel at Alliance Francaise has been showcasing movies by Sanjay Kak on the workings of Indian democracy. The third and final installment in the series will be screened today.

Titled Red Ant Dream (2013), the movie explores stories of resistance from places such as Bastar, Odisha and Punjab and the revolutionary movements in those areas.

The narrative highlights the armed insurrection in Bastar, distraught adivasis from the mineral-rich hills of Odisha who have decided to protest with their axes and songs as well as the protests by Punjabi peasants who have made Bhagat Singh as their revolutionary hero.

Red Ant Dream chronicles incidents and people who are often overlooked and whose struggles are rarely spoken about as the focus lies on urban centres of power.
