Fashion designers Alpana and Neeraju00a0 talk about their latest fall-winter collection, which is contemporary, quirky, sensual yet wearable.
When did you get into designing and how has the journey been so far?
Our association with design began the moment we enrolled into NIFT and then through our respective jobs and consequently the launch of our label. The journey has been very exciting and enriching for both of us. Our experiences at our workplace; every milestone in our business; every new step towards growth and success of our brand is priceless despite the hardship. We feel lucky to be in this profession where we do what we love. Fashion and design are great ways of self-expression. Despite the struggles and every day challenges we feel a great sense of creative satisfaction after we have created beautiful clothes.
Tell us about your Bangalore outing.
Apart from the Delhi Fashion Week, we have showcased our collections in Dubai and at the Miami Fashion Week. Our style of work is very global. It has no geographic boundaries. We create clothes for the young, trendy woman anywhere in the world, and Bangalore is no exception. This city is a fast growing cosmopolitan hub and I am sure a lot of young women will identify with our style.
Any plans to open a stand-alone store or get into couture?
We have a parallel couture and diffusion line that retails out of select premiere stores in India and abroad. We do intend to open our flagship store soon once the markets are stable.
What are the current trends in terms of colours and styles for party wear/evening out with friends?
There is no particular trend or style. You can wear the weirdest of clothes and carry if off beautifully as your signature style. It's more about looking and feeling comfortable, but in general I would suggest beautiful, bright, juicy colours. Keep the styling non fussy and extremely easy. Don't go overboard with accessories and invest in the right shoes that suit your style. And most importantly don't bore yourself and others by sticking to safe pretty little black dresses for the evening. Be a little creative and opt for unusual or quirky yet simple styles.
What is your latest fall-winter collection all about?
Our latest Fall-Winter collection has an oriental spin with origami prints, quilted textures, clever tucks, intricate folds and luscious drapes. The collection travels through a clinical palette of whites and grays into potent inks that lift up the spirit as the colours transcend into vivid teals and climax into glossy and muted blacks. It a journey into luxury with flyaway chiffons, lightweight tweeds, layered tulles, luscious wools and seductive silks.
What is the price range of your pru00eat label?
Prices for our ready to wear line start at Rs 2,000 and go upto Rs 12,000.
