#MumbaiTrailwalker - the word is making the rounds and fast spreading. The long wait is over. Teams are returning from Bengaluru and Sydney for this unique fundraising challenge

Oxfam Trailwalker: The buzz is on!

Rohan Abraham is now our Trailwalker Veteran after completing both the Bengaluru Trailwalkers. He is looking forward to participate in the Mumbai edition with his team ‘Jungle Retreat’. Rohan has already started training; he said, “I have studied the terrain of the Mumbai Trailwalker 2013 and it appears to be significantly tougher than the past two Bangalore Trailwalkers. The primary difference is the major altitude changes across the trail with quite a few of them kept for the last few stages. The Mumbai Trailwalker is definitely not going to be a cake walk but it is quite do-able; though - one would need a lot of preparation and determination to make it through this course.”

Mumbai Trailwalker promises to be adventurous and thrilling. It is certainly doable. The Oxfam Trailwalker challenge has never been just for runners or professional athletes. With training and the right attitude, anyone can take part and complete it. Futura was the oldest participant to complete Oxfam Trailwalker Japan and he was 80!

Harpreet Gondal will participate in the Mumbai Trailwalker with her all-women team - Pace Setters. Harpreet puts her reasons to participate rather simply, “We have never done something like this before. We wanted to challenge our endurance limits and break our mental barriers. We enjoy trekking and we signed up for the challenge and the cause.” Worldwide it is seen that women are more likely to complete the Oxfam Trailwalker challenge than men.
Snehal Shah from Team Serendipity will also take up the Mumbai Challenge after participating in the Bengaluru Trailwalker – TWICE. When asked about his team’s target to complete the 100km, he said, “The target would definitely be to break the record, though it would not be an easy task!”

Rohan’s expert advice for Mumbai Trailwalker, “I think a good study of the stages is very important [length, altitude, time of day] - this will tell you where and when to rest and where to push yourselves. You don't necessarily need to stop and rest only at a check point - base the rest points on when you think you should stop. Nutrition - no heavy food - keep it light and consistent throughout the entire duration of the walk. Hydration - one of the most key aspects - you have to keep the right level of hydration - not over and definitely not under. We carry two bladders - one with salts and one with plain water - you should have both. Don't rest for too long at each break - preferably never more than 30 minutes and do not sleep - your muscles may start cramping once you resume walking. Your support crew is your lifeline - choose them well! And all the best!”

Vishal Gondal sums it up, in his own style, for the teams interested in Mumbai Trailwalker. He said, “It's not about speed, it’s about endurance.

It's not about I, it’s about we.

It’s not about risks, it's about safety.

It's not about body, it's about mind.

It's not about taking, it's about giving.

Oxfam Trailwalker is going to be the best adventure of your life.”

Now decide soon! Just 150 team to be registered for the first Mumbai Trailwalker. See you at the Start Point.
