If it wasn’t for Windows Phone OS, Jolla is how most Nokia smartphones would have looked like. Earlier this year, Jolla, a company founded in 2011 by ex-engineers of Nokia, unveiled a new smartphone powered by Linux-based OS, Sailfish, supposed to be based on the MeeGo project, which Nokia abandoned to move to the Windows Phone platform.

The Jolla phone features a 1GHz dual core processor, 1 GB RAM, a 4.5-inch IPS qHD display with Gorilla 2 Glass protection, an 8 MP rear camera and offers a talk time of 9-10 hours. The phone comes with 3G/LTE functionality and an internal storage of 16 GB with an external memory card slot. It has a full-screen design similar to the Nokia Lumia phones and the Sony Xperia phones. But what makes it really a winner over others is its compatibility with Android apps, which means you can not only run the apps designed for Sailfish OS, but also Android apps.
The phone, priced at 399 Euros, was available on a pre-order basis. The orders have been closed; however, you can still sign up for updates on the product’s availability, and newer developments on this latest entrant into the world of smartphones.

Sony launches new mirror-less cameras
Sony added a new dimension to mirror-less cameras with the new Alpha 7 (24.3 MP) and Alpha 7R (36.4 MP). Featuring full frame sensors, the cameras come with interchangeable lenses, can shoot full HD video at 50p, and features a three-inch tilted screen for display.
