It was one of those evenings. We were in the mood for a long drive out of the city to some friendly restro-bar with a big screen to watch the Big Match in peace. It was the IPL finals and we were rooting for Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings.
One of us suggested a 'lucky' bar, not wanting to take any chances with the match. But confident of Dhoni's match-winning ability, we decided to try out a new place. Someone suggested The Mozart Cafe.
With beige and brown theme and striking interiors, Mozart Cafe gives you an option to enjoy your evening in their outdoor area as well. It comes with parasols to make it worth your while! For us though it had to be the inside as Dhoni was our man for the evening and a giant screen was put up for the benefit of the cricket lovers.
The Mozart Cafe, we were told, is the labour of love of four friends Govind Kapur, Vibhor Ahluwalia, Rahul Wadhwa and Sandeep Verma who wanted a place where strangers would feel at home while seeping a quiet cocktail.
The bar they set up had the experience of Sandy Verma of "drink aware India" fame and his concoctions behind the bar are already the talk of town.
Being Jack lovers, we ordered one Mr Wong All Jacked Up and a Blowjob. That's Jack Daniels muddled up with lots of grapes and apples and the latter is cr me de banana, baileys and vanilla cream. Both set the mood for the evening as Dhoni did what he does best on the field.u00a0
For starters, we went for the Chicken Gilafi Seekh Kebab cooked in the tandoor and the Tandoori "Chooza" Spring Chicken cooked with homemade spices. Succulent, we felt like ordering another plate each. But the kitchen had much more to offer.
The Chef Niranjan Chauhan, as we found out, had eight years of experience in whipping up delicacies. After working in the finest of places like Florida, Miami and Los Angeles, he has now come back to India to put out the best he has to offer.u00a0u00a0
Indeed, the Mozart cafe serves sumptuous selection of Asian, Mediterranean, European and Indian food.u00a0 For the mains, we asked for Stir Fry King Prawns with broccoli, pakchoy and pepper sauce, and served with sticky rice and the Steamed Seabass with udon noodles in a spicy tomato ginger. Both were yum, but the real treat was their signature dish, the Chicken Scallopine with warm potato salad, wilted greens and hazelnut cream sauce. It's simple out of this world.
There was no place for desserts, but we still gorged on the Baileys Cr me Brulee and Crispy Banana Pancake with toffee ice cream. A sweet end to an extraordinary evening out. And guess what, Dhoni won!
