Japanese automaker Honda is known for its reliable and practical cars in the Indian market. After introducing the City facelift in February, Honda recently launched its debutant sub-4m crossover, the WRV, in the country. With the increasing number of options, a Honda buyer is likely to be confused between the spacious hatch Jazz, the facelifted City and the new WR-V. Although all three cars belong to different segments, they have a lot of features in common, and the prices of some variants overlap too. Let's have a look at the cars and try to figure out which one is best for you.

Firstly let's get some facts clear. If you are looking for a Honda with an automatic transmission, the WR-V doesn't offer one. You’ll have to choose between the Jazz and the City. Although the Jazz offers CVT transmission with the petrol versions of the E and S variants, the top-end VX variant misses it. However, if you want a fully loaded automatic Honda and don't mind reaching deep into your pockets, you are in luck as the top-end ZX petrol variant of the City is only being offered with an automatic transmission.

You might also be aware that the new WR-V comes with a sunroof; and if this feature is on top of your list, book the WR-V right away. Not only is the WR-V the most affordable car in the Indian market to feature a sunroof, it is also the only car under Rs 10 lakh to have it.

If we talk about the drivetrain, the three cars share the same 1.5-litre diesel engine which produces 100PS of power and 200Nm of torque, and is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. However, if you want the car with the highest fuel efficiency, pick the Jazz since it has a mileage of 27.3kmpl – the highest among the three.

Coming to the petrol engine, while the Jazz and the WR-V are powered by the same 1.2-litre iVTEC engine that churns out 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque, the City has a 1.5-litre iVTEC engine. If you want the most powerful Honda among the three, go for the City as its engine churns out 119PS of power and 145Nm of torque.

Let's say you have a budget of around Rs 9 lakh and want to buy a Honda. So which one should you go for?

For this amount of money, you can either buy the top-end variant of the Jazz (petrol/diesel), the top-end WR-V (petrol) or the base variant of the City (petrol). All three cars have dual airbags and ABS as standard. However in this price range, in terms of features, the WR-V offers the most. It has 16-inch alloy wheels and the same 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the Digipad, which is offered in the more expensive variants of the City. The WR-V also gets the one-touch open and close sunroof and, if you stretch your budget by a lakh, the diesel variant of the WR-V even offers push-button start and cruise control.

The WR-V is also ideal for Indian roads as it offers 188mm of ground clearance and is quite spacious. While the Jazz offers an automatic transmission and magic seats, the City offers a bigger, 510-litre boot, a powerful engine and the honour of owning a premium sedan.

Go for the Jazz if you want an automatic/spacious hatchback in a tight budget. Pick the City if you want a powerful sedan and don't mind spending more, and book the WR-V if you are looking for a practical Honda with all the bells and whistles within Rs 10 lakh.
