When a hacker and inventor of Mitch Altman's caliber talks, you must listen. Altman, is known as a pioneer in the hackerspace movement, with his San Francisco hackerspace, Noisebridge.

For the uninitiated, a hackerspace is basically a place where people with an interest in computing or technology can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge. Altman is revered for the TV-B-Gone, a one-button universal remote control, that can turn off TVs in public places.
On a visit to India this month, Altman is holding a soldering workshop at Maker's Asylum. Soldering is a process of fusing together two by melting and putting a filler metal (solder) into the joint, the filler metal having a lower melting point than the adjoining metal. It's also a skill that anybody working with technology should acquire.
Co-founder Vaibhav Chhabra says that Altman, who was an inspiration to open the space, has been an advisor to them ever since the beginning. "The people who should attend this event are innovators, and who want to know how they can partner with people from their community," says Chhabra, adding, "for example, a DJ who wants to expand his scope by knowing technical nitty-gritties."
