Game Review: 'Tokyo 42' brings to mind the old Syndicate DOS game feel

Tokyo 42
Rating: 3/5
Developer: SMAC Games
Platform: PC
Price: Rs 565

This game reminds us a lot about an old DOS game called Syndicate Plus. While the remake was nothing like the original Bullfrog game, Tokyo 42 seems to have filled that gap.

You play an innocent man, in a futuristic version of Tokyo, who has been accused of murder. In an attempt to clear your name, you have to become an assassin and commit more murders - some on a mass scale. The game justifies all this violence by informing you that no one really dies because of the advance nano medicines. The game is a beautifully crafted maze of highrises that seem they belong to Candyland rather than a futuristic Tokyo. The rotatable isometric view makes for some interesting gameplay.

However, the combat in the game is the weak point. While it is fun to go around slashing people with your katana, shooting people is a hit and miss. The game doesn't always select the right elevation, so shots that should have hit the target go way over or way under. Also, the AI fighters in the game have mad skills.

Despite some minor problems, Tokyo 42 is a wonderfully fun game to play and it really embodies the whole Syndicate nostalgia feel.
