Are you comfortable using a larger 6.44-inch device as a smartphone? Consume a lot of multimedia content on the go? Want to use it as a secondary device? If you answered any one of these in the affirmative, then Xiaomi’s Mi Max is for you.
Mi Max dwarfs majority of the phones available today but despite its large size, it offers a good handgrip. Design-wise, the front is completely taken over by the 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protecting the 6.44-inch display with capacitive buttons, sensors and a front camera at the top and bottom. The overall design is well rounded and Mi Max can easily be tucked into one’s jeans.
Maximum entertainment
The display is the biggest attraction on the Mi Max. Xiaomi also comes with support for Sunlight Display and Reading mode.
Speaking of performance, Mi Max is a Redmi Note 3 when it comes to performance.
It has similar hardware, but with larger display and greater battery capacity. If you consume a lot of multimedia content on the phone, Mi Max does not disappoint due to its huge screen and 4850mAh battery, which got us through almost two days. On the camera side, rear side sports a 16MP f/2.0 sensor that takes some good-quality pictures. Interestingly, on the video front, the camera is capable of recording 4K video and supports slow motion and time-lapse videos. The selfie camera is 5MP and takes decent pictures. The rear fingerprint sensor allows users to unlock the device, lock apps, hide folders, privatise notes and enable Child mode.
A built-in infrared port transforms the phone into a universal remote control that allows you to control TVs, set-top boxes, air conditioners, music players, etc.
The MIUI 8 operating system comes with interesting goodies, which Mi Max will be able to take advantage of when it rolls out this month.
For instance, there’s an improved calculator that can convert currencies, weight, height; video editing; dual apps and more.
Is this for you?
>> While Mi Max is an excellent value-for-money phone with a well-rounded performance, display size is where it becomes subjective.
>> Good all-round performance but it all comes down to display preference
>> Design, performance, battery life
