The screening will be followed by a talk by Rafique Baghdadi, a freelance journalist and historian who has been writing about cinema for over 20 years. On February 26, The Root Reel is screening Workingman’s Death, a 2005 Austrian-German documentary film written and directed by Michael Glawogger.

The film deals with the extremes to which workers go to earn a living and showcases the plight of miners of Donets Basin; Ukraine, sulphur carriers in Ijen; Indonesia, butchers in an open-air market in Port Harcourt; Nigeria, welders in the Gadani ship-breaking yard in Pakistan, steel workers in Liaoning; China and youth in a former German industrial complex, which has been converted into a leisure park.
