Fuelled by the enthusiasm of Mehroo Jeejeebhoy, Founder Trustee of the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation, and musicians Harvey and Ralph DeSouza in 1996, the festival, will feature the likes of horn player James Ross (soloist with the Leipzig Gewandhaus); Olga Kern (winner of the Rachmaninoff International Piano competition); Timothy Hugh (principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra); and Dan Zhu (the brilliant Chinese violinist) among others.
“Every year, we have musicians from different countries meeting at one stage at this festival. Our core principles with which we started, is still the same — to create a platform where talented musicians can unite,” says Jeejeebhoy.
Since its inception, the festival has experimented and reinvented itself with each passing year, meeting the changing needs of the visiting musicians, music students, teachers and audiences in Mumbai. While it started with musicians of Indian origin as participants; over the years, internationally acclaimed musicians from Europe, the US and other countries started participating in the event too.
