Talking about how her musical journey started, Li says, "My parents had a small upright piano in their old apartment when I was a baby and I loved to play on it for fun. My parents decided that I was interested in the piano and enrolled me in formal lessons when I was four. I later played a piece by Clementi at the Beijing Concert Hall when I was five."
The pianist went on to become one of the top 30 pianists in the world. Ask her about the music scene today and she says, "There should be more awareness and support for classical music. Some classical compositions are difficult to understand for the lay person but some are very relaxing, even for first time listeners."
At this concert, Puneites will get to hear Wagner-Liszt: Liebestod; Chen Peixun: Autumn Moon Over the Calm Lake; Alexine Louie: Memories in an Ancient Garden; Schubert-Liszt: Wohi and more. After performing in India, Li will be performing in cities in mainland China and Scotland, UK. She will be touring nine cities in Canada in October 2011 and will make her Carnegie Weill Hall recital debut in New York this December.
